“Simplifying Standards Development: A Case Study of Less Lethal Impact Munition Standards” – Presentation by Cassandra Robinson
August 25, 2020 – 12pm EST (Register Here)
Standards are a critical part of ensuring that operational and protective equipment used by law enforcement and corrections personnel performs as expected and keeps officers safe.
More than a decade of working in this area has yielded lessons learned for dealing with the many challenges routinely experienced during the standards development process. Some challenges are how to get the right people involved, keep volunteers engaged, get stakeholder buy-in, and drive progress.
This presentation provides ideas for addressing those challenges and simplifying the process using the development of standards for less lethal impact munitions as an example.
“Etiquette in Standards Development, Encouraging Discussion without Disdain” – Virtual Panel
- Vicki Worden, President & CEO, GBI
- Alyson Fick, Manager, Technical Committee Operations Division, ASTM
- Jodi Araujo, CEO, NADCA
September 9, 2020 – 2pm EST (Register Here)
Join us for a discussion with leaders in standards development as we discuss approaches to ensuring polite discourse during meetings.
The sharing of opinions and ideas in standards development meetings is critical to drafting a standard that will be valuable and impactful to all participants. However, discourse can quickly devolve into conflict and disdain when members disagree. Conflicts can also be colored by issues of imbalance and a lack of inclusion on the committee and can result in members feeling unable to speak and share their thoughts. This panel will discuss the role standards development professionals play in ensuring committee members act respectfully during meetings and how standards development organizations can support their work by establishing rules of etiquette and codes of conduct.
