Seeking Inclusion and Gender-Inclusive Language: A Year in Review
In the 2018 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) Declaration for Gender Responsive Standards and Standards Development (which was opened for signature in May 2019), it was identified that representation in standards was imbalanced and that the participation of women in standards development is almost always below parity.
Additionally, that this imbalance has affected the gender responsiveness of the standards. The UNECE and standards developing organizations around the world have embraced this issue to seek positive change and during this presentation we will hear from experts on their progress and the work currently underway. Attendees will learn more about the issue of inclusion in standards, what organizations are doing to find solutions, and how they can become more involved.
