Repairing Our Nation’s Infrastructure – ACI and ICRI recently announced the publication of an updated “Guide to the Code for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures.” More here. 2021 January

U.S. Department of Transportation Issues RFI to Support an Inclusive Design Reference Hub – The U.S. Department of Transportation is calling for public feedback on an initiative to establish a library of resources for accessibility in automation and to work with outside experts to study voluntary best practices for ensuring accessibility in automated vehicles. To support their efforts, the DOT has issued a request for information (RFI) and will use the comments received to develop an Inclusive Design Reference Hub. All responses are due by 5 p.m. on January 20, 2021. More here. 2020 December

Accessible – Building Homes For Everyone – CSA Group, supported by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), to develop “a national standard for affordable, adaptable, and accessible homes across the country.” The Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) is expected to make use of the new standard to rate the accessibility of homes. USNC Current Reflects on Diversity and 10 Years of Progress in the U.S. National Young and Emerging Professionals Program

Standards leaders reflect on the importance of diversity and inclusion to support innovation and performance in the latest Fall 2020 edition of USNC Current. The issue was published by ANSI and the U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The issue also highlights the perspectives of the participants of the U.S. Young and Emerging Professionals Program, which launched in 2010. More here. 2020 Fall

DE&I Task Force Supports Electrical Industry – On 21 December, NECA announced the formation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Task Force which will focus on developing an awareness and education platform to foster a work environment within the electrical industry that supports each person’s unique differences. Promoting Diversity in Corporate Canada – The Government of Canada recently announced their 50-30 Challenge, an effort to promote the goal of 50% gender parity and 30% representation by under-represented groups. To do this, the Government of Canada has partnered with private sector and diversity-focused groups and is proud to announce that over 470 organizations have signed up for the challenge. BSI Selects Susan Taylor Martin as next Chief Executive – Susan Taylor Martin will be the next Chief Executive of the British Standards Institution. Taylor Martin will join BSI in January 2021, having previously served as President of Thomson Reuters’ Global Legal Business. More here. 2020 December

The specifications will allow the use of software and hardware components from different manufacturers, eliminating vendor lock-in and accelerating the deployment of new 5G services.
