The Women in Standards President shall preside at all meetings of the membership. The President shall have the following duties:

  • Oversee board and executive committee meetings.
  • Work in partnership with the chief executive to ensure board resolutions are carried out.
  • Call special meetings, if necessary.
  • Appoint all committee chairs and, with the chief executive, recommend individuals to serve on committees.
  • Serve on the executive committee if one exists.
  • Assist in preparing board meeting agendas.
  • Assist in conducting new board member orientation.
  • Oversee searches for a new chief executive.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new board members.
  • Act as an alternate spokesperson for the organization.
  • Periodically consult with board members on their role and helps them assess their performance.
  • Coordinate chief executive’s annual performance evaluation, where applicable.


The Vice-President shall perform all the duties of the President during the absence of the latter. The Women in Standards Vice President shall have the following duties:

  • Attend all board meetings.
  • Serve on the executive committee if one exists.
  • Carry out special assignments as requested by the board President.
  • Understand the responsibilities of the board President and be able to perform these duties in the President’s absence.
  • Participate as a vital part of the board leadership.


The Women in Standards Secretary shall have the following duties:

  • Prepare and disseminate meeting agendas and summaries
    • Where delegated, the Secretary will review all drafts prior to dissemination.
  • Prepare and disseminate meeting summaries.
  • Attend all board meetings.
  • Serve on the executive committee if one exists.
  • Ensure the safety and accuracy of all board records.
  • Assume responsibilities of the President in the absence of the Board President and Vice President.
  • Provide notice of meetings of the board and/or of a committee when such notice is required.


The Women in Standards Treasurer shall have the following duties:

  • Maintain knowledge of the organization and personal commitment to its goals and objectives.
  • Understand financial accounting for non-profit organizations.
  • Serve as the chair of the finance committee if one exists.
  • Manage, with the finance committee, the board’s review of and action related to the board’s financial responsibilities.
  • Work with corporate staff and/or vendors, where applicable, to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis.
  • Present the annual budget to the board for approval.

Review the annual audit, as applicable, and answer board members’ questions about the audit (if there is no audit committee).


Women in Standards Directors shall have the following duties:

  • Attend all Board meetings as scheduled by the Board President.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the organization.
  • Attend Women in Standards events.
  • Promote Women in Standards and Women in Standards initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects, as needed.
